ABOUT STUDY

The teaching is held in English. The concept of this study is aimed at broadening and deepening of knowledge of computer science and mathematics. The aim of the study program is to teach students the basics of mathematical logic and mathematical coding, which is a prerequisite to mastery of parsing, validation and simplification of complex programs. Students also learn to implement basic algorithms from combinatorics and graph theory and gain a basic understanding of the theory of partial differential equations. Another goal is to teach students basic theory of language, mathematical principles of data protection, encryption algorithms and possible cryptographic. They also obtain knowledge of the basics of enterprise architecture and programming systems based on Java and also with the basic methods in actuarial pension and life insurance. This study program also deals with the money market, interest rates and bonds, ensuring the solvency of insurance companies, modern actuarial techniques and basic knowledge of game theory. Graduates find application in various fields of practice (as designers and creators of algorithmically complex components of information systems, developers of information systems, experts in applied mathematics with advanced knowledge in selected departments of theoretical computer science and so on. ), as well as in scientific research institutes. Study terminates with a state examination and the thesis defense. Graduates receive the Mgr. degree.

ABOUT UNIVERSITY

Matej Bel University was established on 1 July 1992 after the integration of the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Economics. Banská Bystrica has a long tradition in schooling and culture. In the 13th century there had already existed a parish school, later a town school. In the 17th century a Jesuit as well as Evangelical grammar schools were founded. Matej Bel, after whom the University is named, studied and later worked as a rector at this school.

In the 1850s and 1860s the Catholic grammar school with Slovak as a tuition language became and important centre of education in Slovakia. In the school year 1856 - 57 the fi rst Teacher’s Preparation Study was founded in Banská Bystrica, where Slovak language was taught together with German and Latin, thanks to the bishop Štefan Moyses.

In the school year 1949 – 50 the branch of the Faculty of Education, Slovak University of Bratislava, was established in Banská Bystrica. The fi rst higher school appeared in Banská Bystrica in1954. It was called the Higher School of Pedagogy. On 1 September 1964 the Faculty of Education was founded. In 1973 the branch of the Faculty of Commerce, Economic University, Bratislava, was established and in 1977 transformed into the Faculty of Economics of Services and Tourism. On 1 July 1992 the Faculty adopted a new name – Faculty of Economics, which better characterized its focus.

ABOUT CITY

Banská Bystrica (German: Neusohl, Hungarian: Besztercebánya) ( Slovak pronunciation (help·info)) is a key city in central Slovakia located on the Hron River in a long and wide valley encircled by the mountain chains of the Low Tatras, the Veľká Fatra, and the Kremnica Mountains. With 81,281 inhabitants, Banská Bystrica is the sixth most populous municipality in Slovakia.[1][2] It started as a permanent settlement in the 9th century and obtained the municipal privileges of a Hungarian royal town in 1255. The copper mining town acquired its present picturesque look in the Late Middle Ages when the prosperous burghers built its central churches, mansions, and fortifications. It is the capital of the kraj (Banská Bystrica Region) and the okres (Banská Bystrica District). It is also the home of Matej Bel University. As a historical city with an easy access to the surrounding mountains, Banská Bystrica is a popular winter and summer tourist destination.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Step 1

Submit a completed online application form, pay the application fee (includes entrance exam fee) and send supporting documents.

The supporting documents are:

  • Contract Mediation study (applicant shall sign both copies, which will send with other documents. Agency Dievrinsis send you back one signed original)
  • A completed University Application Form
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) - in English
  • High School Leaving Certificate (original or verified copy) - two copies required - one for the University and one for the Regional Authority Office. One of the certificates has to be present with an Apostille from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in home country.
  • Photocopy of the passport
  • Birth certificate
  • Two passport-sized photographs
  • Proof of application fee payment - bank swift + completed fee transfer form

All these documents must be provided in original or as verified copies (with original stamps and signatures).
