Graduates have knowledge of basic biological scientific fields (genetics, molecular biology, plant and animal physiology, cytology, immunology, microbiology, ethology, botany, zoology, human biology, ecology and others), knowledge of several disciplines of chemical sciences ( biophysics, biochemistry, bioinformatics) and a deep theoretical knowledge in a wide range of physiological and zoological scientific disciplines. They also gain methodological and practical skills for scientific work in the chosen field. Graduates are able to participate by teaching biological subjects at schools with a biological focus and have excellent conditions for applying in research and service laboratories, in health care, hygienic service facilities, at universities in line with a similar focus, in museums, in the organs of nature and landscape defense, but also in the private sector for example in our and foreign pharmaceutical companies. Study terminates with a state examination and the thesis defense. Graduates receive the Mgr. degree. ABOUT UNIVERSITYThe Faculty of Science of P. J. Šafárik University in Košice was founded in 1963. Since then it has educated more than 4,900 graduates of both single and joint degree programme studies in all branches of natural sciences. Within the European Union adopted model 3-5-8, the Faculty provides the Bachelor's and Master's degree studies in the following branches: Biology, Geography, Chemistry, Ecology, Informatics, Mathematics and Physics as well as all joint degree programmes in combinations of Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Informatics, Mathematics and Physics. Since 2006, in cooperation with the Institute of Philological and Social Sciences, joint degree programmes in combinations with Psychology, Philosophy, Slovak language and British and American studies have been offered. Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice belongs to accomplished institutions of education and science not only in Slovakia but also in Europe. At present the University has five faculties – Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Public Administration and Faculty of Arts – which prepare physicians and dentists, experts in natural sciences, mathematics and informatics, teachers, lawyers, specialists for public administration and specialists for psychology, philosophy and theory of communication. The graduates of our University which is the second oldest in Slovakia, have a very good reputation all over the world. ABOUT CITYKošice is a city in eastern Slovakia. It is situated on the river Hornád at the eastern reaches of the Slovak Ore Mountains, near the border with Hungary. With a population of approximately 240,000, Košice is the second largest city in Slovakia after the capital Bratislava. Being the economic and cultural center of eastern Slovakia, Košice is the seat of the Košice Region and Košice Self-governing Region, the Slovak Constitutional Court, three universities, various dioceses, and many museums, galleries, and theaters. Košice is an important industrial center of Slovakia. The U. S. Steel Košice steel mill is the biggest employer in the region. The town has good railway connections and an international airport. The city has a well preserved historical center, which is the largest among Slovak towns. There are many heritage protected buildings in Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and Secession styles with Slovakia's largest church - St. Elisabeth Cathedral. The long main street, rimmed with aristocratic palaces, Catholic churches, and townsfolk's houses, is a thriving pedestrian zone with many boutiques, cafés, and restaurants. The city is well known as the first settlement in Europe to be granted its own coat-of-arms. ABOUT COUNTRYThe Slovak Republic (short form: Slovakia) is a landlocked state in Central Europe. It has a population of over five million and an area of about 49,000 square kilometers. Slovakia is a landlocked country bordered by the Czech Republic and Austria to the west, Poland to the north, Ukraine to the east and Hungary to the south.
