Economics and Management as a bachelor study programme is an equivalent of study programme “Ekonomika a manažment podniku”. This study programme is from academic year 2005/2006 lectured in English language with full accreditation according to law number 131/2002 Coll. about universities.

Bachelor study is a first level of university studies. Standard duration of internal form is three years. Bachelor study has to be finished by defending of bachelor thesis and oral exam from economics and expert subjects of study programme. Absolvent of this study programme gains academic title “bachelor” (abbreviation - Bc).

Absolvent of bachelor study “Business Economics and Management” is able to use knowledge from economics, quantitative methods, law, management and marketing. Absolvent is skilled in professional communication in English and has practice skills in informatics. Gained knowledge is being deepened by business planning, production management, international trade, financial analysis and entrepreneuring in small and medium sized enterprises. Absolvent is also able to solve intermediate problems from calculations, budgets, planning and organizing of business processes. He / She knows basic managerial relations in business functioning and has widespread basement for application of his / her knowledge especially in small and medium sized enterprises.


The Faculty of Economics has existed in Banská Bystrica since 1973 when it was established as an affiliate branch of Bratislava School of Economics. In 1977, it was granted a statute and became a new independent Services and Tourism Faculty of Economics. The next stage in the history of the Faculty dates from 1992 when the school became a part of the newly established Matej Bel University comprising eight faculties. During twenty years existence nearly 3,500 successful students have graduated from the Faculty. Presently this Faculty offers three accredited subjects of study: Tourism and Hospitality, Corporate Economics and Management, as well as Public Economics and Administration. There are about 2,000 students who attend "bachelor", "Master" or "doctorate" form of study. Moreover, various forms of life-long education are organized here. In the academic year 1999/2000 pedagogical work was performed by 100 full-time university teachers, 11 research workers and 57 administrative workers.


Banská Bystrica (German: Neusohl, Hungarian: Besztercebánya) ( Slovak pronunciation (help·info)) is a key city in central Slovakia located on the Hron River in a long and wide valley encircled by the mountain chains of the Low Tatras, the Veľká Fatra, and the Kremnica Mountains. With 81,281 inhabitants, Banská Bystrica is the sixth most populous municipality in Slovakia.[1][2] It started as a permanent settlement in the 9th century and obtained the municipal privileges of a Hungarian royal town in 1255. The copper mining town acquired its present picturesque look in the Late Middle Ages when the prosperous burghers built its central churches, mansions, and fortifications. It is the capital of the kraj (Banská Bystrica Region) and the okres (Banská Bystrica District). It is also the home of Matej Bel University. As a historical city with an easy access to the surrounding mountains, Banská Bystrica is a popular winter and summer tourist destination.

Step 1

Submit a completed online application form, pay the application fee (includes entrance exam fee) and send supporting documents.

The supporting documents are:

  • Contract Mediation study (applicant shall sign both copies, which will send with other documents. Agency Dievrinsis send you back one signed original)
  • A completed University Application Form
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) - in English
  • High School Leaving Certificate (original or verified copy) - two copies required - one for the University and one for the Regional Authority Office. One of the certificates has to be present with an Apostille from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in home country.
  • Photocopy of the passport
  • Birth certificate
  • Two passport-sized photographs
  • Proof of application fee payment - bank swift + completed fee transfer form

All these documents must be provided in original or as verified copies (with original stamps and signatures).
